Mizuno Ryokan – A Journey Through Time

As the quiet evening descends, stepping through the samurai residence gate draped in historical significance feels like opening a portal from the present to the past.

Established in 1953, this ryokan began when the previous generation acquired a villa formerly owned by a paper merchant.

Treasures from the Genkai Sea

The traditional “Tonsan-namasu” was a delightful discovery.

“Tonsan-namasu (Noble’s Sashimi)”: A local specialty with a rich history – legend has it that Toyotomi Hideyoshi himself praised this dish after tasting it in a fishing village near Karatsu.

“Live Spear Squid Sashimi”: A Karatsu delicacy served in various ways – as sashimi, followed by the remaining portion prepared as tempura, salt-grilled, or with vinegar miso.

Where Sky Meets Sea

Surrender to the rhythm of waves while watching the sunset over Karatsu Bay. The ever-changing colors of the sky paint a natural ink painting.
